主讲人概况

Zetian Mi received the B.Sc. in Physics from Beijing University (1997), the M.Sc. in Physics from the University of Iowa (2001), and the Ph.D. in Applied Physics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor (2006). He had been a research engineer in Picometrix Inc. (Ann Arbor, MI) from 2001 to 2003 and a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Michigan from 2006 to 2007. In Sep. 2007, he joined McGill University as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His research interests are in the areas of epitaxial growth of semiconductor nanostructures, nanophotonics, and nanoelectronics. He is the founder and director of the nitride epitaxial growth facility at McGill University. He has authored over 90 peer-reviewed technical papers and book chapters related to his research and has contributed to a total of 17 invited talks including 3 plenary presentations at international conferences. In 2009, he has been awarded the position of Hydro-Quebec Nano-Engineering Scholar by McGill for his outstanding achievement in nanotechnology.

Located in the beautiful city of Montreal, McGill University has been widely recognized as one of the oldest and best public universities in North America. The faculty of Engineering, ranked 18th in the World’s Best Colleges in Engineering and IT by US News & World Report and the Times Higher Education Supplement, intends to compete as one of the preeminent professional engineering schools for top notch students and researchers in the world.
In this presentation, I will discuss some of the unique research opportunities offered by the Faculty of Engineering at McGill for international students and scholars. I will also describe some of the research activities in the area of nanophotonic materials and devices at McGill. The presentation will be followed by questions and discussions.
